In contemporary society dogs do not have a task like they used to have ...

In the past they were for instance guarding the farm or going hunting with the boss.  They did an excellent job because it corresponded with their instinct. Today we turn many dogs into traumatized maniacs because we only want them to be nice and lovely companions that we can spoil.  That is good therapy for a human being experiencing a lack, but it is unfair for the dog.

A dog needs a task in order to stay mentally and physically healthy.

Today you will teach your dog the exercise called "Stay".  Just like with "Sit" you can use whatever word or sound as a verbal command.
Just like with "Sit" it is not important what you say but what you DO.

Make your dog come to you and put on his collar and leash.  Walk a few steps with the leash in your RIGHT hand.  Stop walking and make your dog sit.  Keep the leash in your right hand, place your left hand in front of your dog's nose and step forward with your right leg, turning into the dog in order to face him/her.  You are standing in front of your dog with outstretched left arm and your left flat hand in front of his/her nose. You are still holding the end of the leash in your right hand.

Change the leash from your right hand to your left hand, step around your dog while keeping the leash at the right hand side of her/his head. Back in starting position, wait 3 seconds and praise your dog.

See you next month.

Kindest regards from Bruno the dog listener.
